Sack the bass player8:32 AM - Fri 21 November 2008I've been fretting a bit about a gig I have on Monday. I've had a bass player and a keyboard player in my little band for some time and the bassist has let me down a couple of times recently. At the last proper gig we had he actually went off before we played and left us in the lurch - this was because we weren't exactly sure of the time we'd be on and he had to listen to some of the other music first. It was a benefit gig and the other music was mainly African stylie and a really good atmosphere. We had to play only ten minutes after he'd hoofed it and I had to re-jig the set on the spot and it was very disconcerting. And he's missed a couple of pratices including this Wednesday evening even though we have a gig on Monday with no explanation - I've sacked him leaving just me and the keyboard man who's really good. I feel bad about it as he's a bloody good bass player and seems a nice guy - but even if he was the best in the world he's no use to me if I can't rely on him! Grrrrrr - life is never simple. I'll have to try and find a new bass player in the New Year but it takes ages for someone to learn all the tracks........ comments {4}Windows and More!2:54 PM - Tue 8 January 2008I bet you thought I meant Microsoft Windows - no - I mean Zenith f***ing Staybrite Windows.Last year, I had the windows at my rental property replaced throughout by the above company (who did seem pretty good though EXPENSIVE at the time). Yesterday, one of my tenants contacted me to say their windows were looking grotty and the bay below going all black and condensation everywhere. OK, no probs thought I, they are fully guaranteed and backed by an insurance policy which (naturally grrrr) I've paid for. To cut a long story short, I phoned them today and guess what (the timing of it gnash gnash) the company went into liquidation - yes - you guessed it YESTERDAY!!!! Aggghhhhh - these windows cost thousands and now it's in the hands of the administrators. I can't leave it like it is because it's in their bedroom so it looks like I may have to fork out for the repairs myself. Never mind, one way or another it'll get sorted but I can't believe the timing of it. On a much nicer note, I had lunch with my neighbour from where I used to live today, we've always kept in touch - and that was very pleasant! Tonight, we have our first drum lesson of the new term and then I'm going to the open no-mic at The Miners Arms to sing a couple of songs - much more fun than thinking about the damn damp at the flats! Will have to get it sorted though - I've organised a builder to meet me there tomorrow. PS - on a happier note - I've booked a flight to the Gambia in March - that's for another post though! comments {8}Blah blah10:31 PM - Thu 22 November 2007blah blah blah.Sorry - ha ha - nothing much to say today. I went to the cinema with a couple of friends this evening to see Brick Lane but it was sold out so can't tell you what it was like ................. It was a frustrating day - still trying to sort out A's visa which they're still trying to turn down and send him back to the Cameroon despite all his good work in the community - apparently that all counts for nothing!! Last ditch attempt to overturn this ridiculous ruling - we're complaining to the Ombudsman about the mal-administration and unfair treatment. It's all so exhausting and annoying and time wasting instead of getting on with the community work the organisation was set up for in the first place. Anyway ........... last night I slept from 1.30am to about 5.30am - not too bad - then dozed till 8 ish so could have been worse. Tonight I'll try an early night and see what happens. comments {5}Still Home10:20 AM - Sat 27 October 2007Well now I am REALLY fed up.I've pre-paid for a weekend of drumming near Salisbury and I woke up this morning still feeling like the proverbial shit. It's not that I'm really ill - just a heavy cold but I have absolutely no energy and a head full of gunk. So another boring day looms ahead - I haven't been out of the house for days and I haven't seen a soul in what feels like ages. I ought to enjoy the peace but I'm a very sociable animal! I'm not lonely - just frustrated. Pathetic of me I know as there are so many people who really do have something to complain about and this is just a whinge. I don't even feel like reading and I can't practice my songs as my voice is all weird right now. *moan moan whinge whinge* At least reading everyone's blogs helps keep me amused!:) comments {13} |
