Sabar Drums and Clowns!12:15 AM - Tue 9 February 2010Well it’s been a couple of weeks since I posted something here.Last Thursday I went to London to my son’s end of course presentation – he’s been training in clowning which is a very fascinating and deep subject – real emotions, tragedy and comedy is got in touch with and brought into the performance – he’s found it life changing. 
On Saturday we went to Bristol to a day’s workshop of sabar drumming and dance with a great party in the evening and Sunday we came back home. I’ve got a busy week ahead – I’m thinking of starting writing my morning pages again to try and keep my writing mojo going – I used to write a few pages every morning early – just to clear out thinking and get all the channels open and flowing. This coming weekend my dad and his wife plus my kids and family are coming for a late Christmas (well not really Christmas now!) so I’m looking forward to that – I’ve got to try and get everything sorted out before Thursday as I’m going to see Paloma Faith on Thursday in London and coming back just before everyone arrives on Friday – mmm – can it be done – I hope so!!! comments {0}Back From the Gambia3:09 PM - Thu 28 January 2010Just back from an amazing three week trip to the Gambia sorting out various things for the Kartong Festival and the Dombondir Festival in the Casamance. It was wonderful to catch up with old friends and get some much needed sunshine. Here’s a short clip of me and my friend Moriba (on the Kora) playing at a friend’s wedding in Brikama! The anti-malarial drugs I was on Malarone didn’t do me any good though and I won’t be using that again! I'll keep an eye here for a while but from now on that's where you'll find me. comments {1}WOMAD and other shenanigans!10:27 AM - Wed 29 July 2009I think that possibly this has been the longest gap I've ever had between posting so I'm sorry for that!I had a good visit to my son in London and a whistle stop tour of various friends. This last weekend we went to the annual WOMAD Festival at Charlton Park - absolutely wonderful as usual - we saw some great bands and some smaller more obscure things as well. A fantastic beat box group called Schlomo, a group who emulated electronic music on hang drums, double bass, sax and percussion called Portico Quartet plus the big guys such as Yousur N'Dour, Peter Gabriel and loads more. It got muddy and rainy on the last day but we didn't really mind that! 
We worked a few hours a day at the Drum and Dance workshop marquees and that was fun too. So.... busy, busy but I'm still here ha ha! 
comments {2}Quick hello10:57 PM - Wed 15 July 2009Sorry I've been such a dreadful blogger recently - just too busy to get to it.Life's been hectic but interesting. We've just got back from the Drum Camp in Suffolk which despite some not too brilliant weather, was excellent as usual. We've had one of our African teachers staying with us too and then tomorrow I'm off to London to see my son and various friends before heading off for a weekend with my daughter and son-in-law and my gorgeous grand-daughter. Next week is WOMAD festival where we'll be working in the drum workshop area from Weds then finally the following week I'll have a bit of time at home in the countryside! I've had a whiz round lots of blogs this evening though I haven't commented much I'm slowly re-subscribing to people either here or RSS feeds on EFx3 etc. Anyway - hope you're all well and see you next week. comments {0}Off To Drum Camp2:10 PM - Wed 8 July 2009I can't believe a year has passed since the last Drum Camp! It's a relatively small gathering in Suffolk with daily workshops in drum, dance and song with wonderful performances in the evening. It's camping or camper vans so we're taking Moon Palace - just topped up the oil and water and packed her full of drums etc! It's very unlikely I'll find any wireless there so don't expect to hear from me till next week some time. At last I have tenants for my Bristol house which I've let out and we're settling in well here. I get a replacement car next week after the accident and my shoulder's on the mend so all in all life is good. Here's a picture from last year - I'll take the camera and get some good new ones hopefully! Pray for good weather - it's been very stormy here the last few days.

The photo is of the Kora I have for sale on his behalf. 01 Dombondir MP3 from http://chandramoon.vox.com/ comments {3}Burgundy Canal Trip8:58 PM - Sat 20 June 2009We got back at 3.30am today after a very long drive up from just south of Dijon back to the Dunkerque Ferry for 10pm then the drive back to Oxfordshire! We're pretty tired but it was worth the effort.We had four glorious days of sunshine on the canal. We moved the boat most days to a different mooring. While P worked I lazed about enjoying the scenery and doing the odd crossword! Apart from cooking one meal I really did have a fantastic rest! The views were beautiful - here's a typical evening sunset over the canal.
